British Premier Boris Johnson sufferes a double defeat

British Premier Boris Johnson suffered a double defeat in the House of Commons when Members of Parliament rejected his motion for an early general election.

This followed after they earlier passed a bill aimed at blocking a no-deal Brexit if Johnson hadn’t agreed a plan with the European Union ahead of the 31 October deadline.

BBC reports that Johnson wanted MPs to agree to an early election on 15 October, saying the bill left him unable to negotiate a deal.
