Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the media has misrepresented the General Education Certificate for Grade 9.
Motsekga told a parliamentary committee today that the GEC is not a school exit certificate.
The certificate will in fact enable pupils to continue with their education at different institutions where they will be exposed to skills training in available trades.
Motshekga stresses that the GEC is part of a skills revolution.
