Former president Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane Zuma, told the state capture commission of inquiry that serious rumours prompted him to organise a meeting between businessman Fana Hlongwane and former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas on October 23, 2015. Zuma claimed in an affidavit that there were rumours that Hlongwane had blackmailed Jonas. The meeting which he arranged was the infamous meeting in which, according to previous evidence, members of the Gupta family offered Jonas R600m to take up the position of finance minister. Jonas testified that Zuma drove him to the meeting. Zuma confirmed that he facilitated the meeting and drove Jonas to the Gupta residence in Saxonwold, Johannesburg. However, he disputed Jonas’ claim that Jonas did not know he was going to the Gupta residence.
