The National Assembly will debate the country’s unemployment crisis on Thursday.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane asked the Parliament Speaker Thandi Modise for an urgent debate on joblessness.

The country’s unemployment rate climbed to 29-percent in the second quarter of the year.

Maimane says the DA will use the debate to table its comprehensive economic recovery plan.

He says the debate should address unsustainable levels of government spending.

These include the bailing out of debt-ridden and failing state-owned entities and cutting the Public Sector Wage Bill.
