The governing body of European soccer, Uefa, is investigating disciplinary charges after England players were subjected to racist abuse during a qualifier in Bulgaria.

Uefa has charged the Bulgarian union with racist behaviour, the throwing of objects and the disruption of the national anthem.

The local union’s chairperson, Borislav Mihaylov, resigned yesterday after being ordered to do so by his government.

Uefa’s ethics and disciplinary body will deal with the case.
